Single Pen Stand Usage

I was working on my tabletop photographic skills today and discovered another use for the single pen stand.

Thanks Steve. I'm not much good at tutorials buy I can tell you what I did and what I use.

Camera is a Nikon D7000 and I was using a Nikon 105mm f2.8 Micro(Macro) lens.
Camera set on aperture priority at f22 for maximum depth of field, iso at 200.
Camera on a tripod, one 27 watt daylight CFL on each side of the cube and one overhead, on camera flash activated and one remote strobe high and on the right.
Exposure was f22 @ 1/4 sec. Picture is straight out of the camera except for resizing.
My equipment is a bit overkill but that is the way I am. Very good results can be obtained with most any good point and shoot camera that has some adjustments. In my opinion one of the most important aspects is good lighting.

One is but I haven't figured out how to get both in at the same time so don't be offended.

If the lighting is good, and you have a decent lens in your pocket camera, you can get good pics. Good lights and a good tripod are the keys to good product photography.

You do nice work. I need to get back into product photography. Just laziness! I wrote a cookbook and one of the biggest criticisms of the book is lack of photos. I still have all the equipment to do it, left from my film photography business years ago.

The trigger lock on the Nikon reminds me of a camping trip years ago when they were brand new on the market. A friend camping with us was showing off his new trigger lock for his handgun.

In the middle of the night, a pack of hunting dogs got lost and wandered into our camp. One of the big hounds got into my friend's tent and we were awakened by loud shouts. "There's a bear in the tent! Where's the key? Where's the G.D. key?"

By then two of the dogs had climbed into the open back of our station wagon where we were sleeping, and we knew they were just dogs. But I always think of it when I see a trigger lock.
