Metal lathes. I just found this one not far from me and sent him an email asking more about it, does it look familiar to anyone? I am not sure what is all included but I would like to jump on it quick if it is worth it. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me about this lathe.

I forgot this one, it looks like it has a drill press attached. The lady has not answered her phone so I am not sure about this one either.

Lathe looks to be a bargain, if big for pens. I'm not a fan of the combo machines, but some like them for light work.

It just smaller, knowing the brand and the distance between centers would help. But from the photo I think it might be a better deal than the older lathe. Thne again, brand and the size counts.

I would pass on the combo period, but the lathe is a bargain if there is anything else that goes with it and or its in good shape. It has the quick change gear box. looks like an Atlas but it could be a few others as well. If it didnt have a lot of back lash or slop in the ways etc. Its a great price. It is large for just a pen blank but MIke ROux uses a 12 x 36 to make pens on. You can always make small stuff on a large lathe but not the other way around.

Thanks Mike. I actually have some ideas for metal items that I would like to make. My Jet 1014 handles what woodworking I want to accomplish. When I worked at Woodcraft I sold a General lathe, I believe that it was a 36" long with a swivel head, and it was a 220V, to a guy who wanted to learn to makes pens, he was told by a fellow pen turner to buy the largest and never have to worry about getting a larger lathe. It was a great sale for me but I felt that is was overkill, he went home happy anyway and that is what counts.
