Sierra Clips

Has anyone changed out the clips on a Sierra kit?

The Sierra comes with the clip already assembled to the finial. It it theoretically possible, however you run a great risk of damage to the finial during dis-assembly. I've dis-assembled them to do a "wood trimmed" sierra but I've never changed out the clip.

It worked very well but it's a lot of work.
