On the 14th of January, I paid 40 for shipping for a package from Hawaii. It's been over a month - does Hawaii take significantly longer to get a package from than the mainland US?

I have not been able to get in contact with the seller - just wondering if there's any issues in Hawaii right now that I don't get on Canadian news...

I think it was flat-rate shipping, so it should be a large box...any idea how long that should take to get here from Hawaii?

All of the shipments that I have sent to and received from Hawaii usually take only one day longer than most other parts of the US. However, I do not know if there are any special issues involving packages from Hawaii crossing the border. Since you have not been able to contact the seller, my first inclination would be to be suspicious of him/her. My second thought would be some sort of a hold up with customs.

Edit: My experience is from shipments via priority mail. I am sure that other methods such as parcel post etc. may take significantly longer.

Having received and sent many packages to/from Hawaii over the years, to the US Mainland, this is how it works. Priority Mail, including FR Box, is 3 or 4 days either way. If the package is sent parcel (or "standard" or "surface") it goes by ship across the pond. This takes about 2 weeks (at best), but typically 3 or 4 weeks. I have little experience for mail going to Canada, but would expect similar results unless customs causes additional delays.

It's been my experience that USPS shipments to Canada travel to Miami first (I have no idea why) and tracking stops at the sorting facility there. Some indeterminant time later (a week to a month), they may show up at their destination.

Inquires to CanadaPost come back "we never got it, contact USPS". USPS says "it's in Canada, contact CanadaPost".

Your package could be lost, or simply still delayed. If you can't get ahold of the seller, however, you may want to contest payment (via paypal, credit card company, or whatever other merchant service you used) before your window of opportunity closes.

Eric.

I get things from Guangdong China far faster than that.

Unless it was something of extreme size or weight that had to come by dirigible it should come by regular jet aircraft like regular mail or parcels and take about as long as something from the continental side.

Most likely the package will land on the west coast for a re-sort before it get put into an international pouch for Canada... depending on the mode of transport, i.e., FR Priority, versus parcel post it may be transported via Matsun lines back to U.S.... my experience with Matsun is limited, but I do remember them being not a fast carrier. However, today most mail regardless of class travels by air. I suspect your package is enroute and/or tied up in customs.

That is from where you are --- my international shipments go mostly to Chicago but sometimes Philadelphia (which is much closer). There are some cities that are points of debarkation for International mail -- Miami must be one of them.

If you paid via paypal or credit card you'll want to make sure of how long you have to file a "did not receive" claim - It might be 45 days in which case you'll have to file that to protect yourself.

Andrew,

Smitty is right about protecting yourself, but remember that customs can sit on a package as long as they want. I had a small flat rate box stuck with them for just shy of a month with nothing I could do about it.

As for the lack of contact, no idea other than we all have things come up that take all our time and we drop everything else in life. Just keep trying.

Well check with Paypal or your credit card because some of them you have only 45 days to put in a claim - some are 60 but make sure. If it was sent USPS an inquiry into its where abouts can be made after 21 days and I would start that - you might have to fill out some paper work at the USPS website (I think but couldn't swear to it I had to call them to find out how to do it) to get them looking. USPS might have to get US Customs to talk to Canadian Customs to see if they have it in customs.
