Ok guys, I am just putting the finishing touches on a homemade sharpening jig for the bench grinder.

Now my question is, can I use the stock wheels that came with it to sharpen with for the time being untill I can get out and pick up some 60grit alum. oxide wheels?

Thanks.

Yes you can, but you should get the alum. oxide wheels as soon as you can. Heck when I worked in a machine shop we always used the stock wheels to sharpen the tool bits.

Great, didnt think there would be aproblem but wanted to make sure i wouldnt be causing any damange to the tools.

Been working on my homemade jig off and on today, will get pics up tomorrow after the glue on the end blocks dries. Then I get to test it out!

Only harm you can do is blue tips of your tools pressing too hard while sharpening. That not a good idea regardless of the steel your tools made of.

Steel experts, tool, & wheel manufacturers tell us friable aluminum oxide wheels (white, pink & blue) are the best for sharpening HSS. That also includes harder steel alloys like PM tools.
