When you make a scraper, you actually want the burr. In fact a have a burr tool that is just a heavy steel bar. You sharpen the scraper at 90-degrees then drag this tool the length of your scraper to roll that sharp corner over the edge just a bit. That burr is what does the scraping.

Roy: Thanks for posting that link. I had heard about the new system; but could not find any reference to it on the Internet.

I wonder how many people are going to be purchasing replacement wheels when they drop the glass ones?? For $200 seems like they could supply metal wheels??

Also, I'm not real crazy about doing all of the sharpening on the underside of the wheel where it is difficult or impossible to see what is going on. I wonder why they couldn't have had the sharpening going on on the top side of the wheel like the Tormek system. I wonder if they were worried about patent infringement??
 
In the video he said that they are using "float glass" which is glass that is FLAT, FLAT, FLAT ! If I am not mistaken float glass is made by pouring molten glass on top of metal in a liquid state[8)]. (Tin I think) So it comes out just as flat as they can make it.
 
I noticed he never did a fingernail on it IMO one a the hardest tools to sharpen and keep the proper angle .. I just bought the jet system and really like it .. I duno bout this thing . Maybe after a few changes over the years in design . But they are on to somthing just not my idea of a shaperner thou ..That under the bottom see thru thing and no way to hold those tools at a a proper angle is looking for trouble IMO anyway .. I guess I am saying it looks ok but I can't tell without actually trying it up close and personal . looks like it could be good but also could be a pile junk I just duno .. Time a tell always does .[?]

The jet with few exceptions is a dead copy of the Tormek and the Jet a take all the Tormek jigs ..
 
The thing that caught my eye, was the fact that it was made by the Drill Doctor people, and that is a popular tool that everyone raves about. This unit would produce the flat grind as opposed to the hollow grind. Many prefer the hollow grind.
