Seed Planting Oak Robot
No matter how amazing this looks, the grumpy old man inside me is a bit sceptic. What message this innovation relays? That we should solve our problems with the same mindset that created them? We should stop getting our hands dirty? What about the future generations? We should teach them to fly drones and scatter little machines instead of teaching them how to use garden hoes? ..
Oh stop it old man!

Really interesting concept with great potential in certain regions needing an extra boost. Dumping all of the seedlings in one spot at the same time is problematic but overall there is a lot of potential. They need to find a better way to distribute the seeds by air if that is the intent.

It still cannot replace people choosing to go out and plant trees and being involved in person.

Years ago I owned some land that I was going to have selectively harvested for timber. One of the things that I found interesting was the different perspectives of the Forester vs the Logger.

The Forester wanted to select trees that would open the canopy up. This would allow the remaining trees to grow more branches and allow more plants to grow from the forest providing more animal habitat at the cost of cutting a lot more, smaller trees.

The Logger wanted to be much more selective about the trees. Only cutting the ones ready to harvest and minimizing damage to the rest of the forest which would allow the remaining trees to grow through natural selection producing taller, straighter trees with fewer limbs.

Neither of them were wrong and they each cared about the forest in different ways for different reasons.

I found this interesting and thought others would, too. If new innovation were not needed, no one would take the time to develop it.

This may help. In 1830, thinking ahead, the Swedes planted 300 acres of oak in order to have material for their navel fleets.
Of course, boats changed a little bit by the time they were ready in the 1930s. :)

Assuming the bots are set to stagger the growth so that the canopy is not uniform, the trees will come to good use, in some way.
