The drive gear on my garage door opener stripped so, I got online and looked up the part. The nearest one to me was across Indy maybe 20 miles from my house. Considering the weather and road/traffic conditions, I decided to order it from SPD. I wanted to get it pretty quick so, I opted for the $17.95 shipping to have it in three days which, would have been Thursday. Checking out the tracking, it says shipped on the 22nd, "Ground" . Followed the usual routine of calling, the nice girl put me on hold for 10 minutes. Comes back and, tells me UPS has it and, will be delivered next Tuesday. Getting the difference in shipping refunded. BIG DEAL! But, I'll take it  Guess I should have made the trip across town.

My turn to vent.:wink::biggrin:

I have had a horrible time with Sears parts Direct. My wife bought me a table saw, and I wanted a throat gap for a dato blade.

Searched the parts list in the users manual, no go. Searched the on line parts list, I still didnt see it. So I called. after 4 shipments of the wrong part I gave up. If they dont have it in the store, I dont buy from Sears.

Sears is awful. Our refrigerator has been down for over two months for a problem that is covered by a service notice and will be repaired at Sears' expense. Sears says they are waiting for a part to complete the repair. No promise on when the part might be available. Two months is ridiculous. We are done with Sears.

I had an experience with Sears repair. I'll not go into the long ordeal, but go to the store and ask the manager if they can assist. Most store managers will do their best to satisfy the customer. The appliance I had the issue with, the service call center was terrible. The store provided a new appliance, free delivery and pickup at no charge.
If you don't ask, you won't receive!

Well Chuck, if you do business with Sears, today, it's hard to believe that this is the company that more or less INVENTED the mail order business.

Even harder to believe is that Sears IS STILL IN BUSINESS in today's environment. In the old days. Sears was another 5 letter word for value. Today, Sears means NOBODY ELSE HAS IT.

I don't expect to see Sears in 2015.

You're right Andy. I remember when uncle bought nothing but Sears tools and, always went to his Montgomery Ward catalogs for whatever he needed for the farm. Now, apparently the order fillers don't bother to read the shipping instructions on the invoice.

I will probably make the trip up to 86th St tomorrow and pick it up. Fix the door opener and, send the part back and, get a refund.

Oh, and by the way, just because Sears online says the part is in stock at store X, DOESN'T mean that anybody at that particular Sears store can or WILL try to locate it for you.

If you can't tell, Sears is NOT on my Christmas Card list, ANYMORE!

I'm still mad at Sears over a pressure washer I bought on line with in store pickup. As it turns out they didn't have it in stock at my store. They were more than happy to tell me I could drive to another store 70 miles away and pick it up but they wouldn't ship another one to my local store..

Maybe I'm wrong here but didn't Sears ship the part out to you in a timely manner ? Looks to me it a UPS issue and not Sears. Please correct me if I'm reading this wrong.
Once the item is picked up it's not really in the hands of the retailer anymore.

I ship several packages daily with UPS and every once in a while we get notifications from UPS that there may be slight delays in delivery due to adverse weather conditions.

Yes, I think you read it wrong. OR, maybe I explained it wrong. When I placed the order online, at CHECK OUT, there were three shipping options. I chose the fastest option which was 3 days at $17.95 Whoever filled the order, put it on a truck which was 6-9 days for $12.95 Basically, put it on a truck instead of a plane but, charged me for the plane (which is what I wanted) The tracking system clearly shows it was shipped by ground service. Hope that makes more sense.

Couldn't get anyone to help me in Sears once.....so I called the store from in the store and asked for the manager. I then asked him if anyone could help me and he said that calling from in the store was rude and uncalled for. I thought it was clever. Yep no one came to help and I left!

Yep, I agree Sears will be gone by 2015, our local store will close this week, and Craftsman tools have been available at Ace hardware for the last year.

Sears Service

I had the experience a few years ago of ordering a window air conditioning unit and because I shouldn't lift heavy things due to heart problems I ordered Sears installation. They sent a young man who had never installed a window air conditioner before. He couldn't understand the instructions our window was a little different than the one shown in the instruction booklet and he couldn't figure out how to fix things so the AC could be installed.

I told him what he had to do and he argued that the instructions didn't show that.

I very carefully explained why following the instructions would not work because of the difference in the window and he still couldn't understand so I called the store and told them forget the installation unless they had someone who knew what they were doing. I got a refund and did it myself.

Had he followed the instructions as he wanted to the unit would have been slanted in rather than out so any water would have drained on my bedroom floor. There would also have been no 'seal' and it would not have cooled things at all. I had to cut a couple of boards to change the window so the unit could be correctly installed and sealed. The guy they sent didn't even know you had to seal all the way around the unit - he was ready to leave 1 inch gaps on both sides.

Well, the part showed up, I installed it. It works BUT, I can hear the teeth jumping for the first few seconds when the door goes up. :frown: It'll last awhile.
