I may have a chance to get a Sear's 36" lathe for $100. Anyone have any experience with this type of lathe? Don't know the age of the lathe. Any tips on what to look for when I go to look at it? I'm not very well versed in lathe buying.:)

Thanks,
jim

Model, age and condition are paramount. Impossible to advise you without more information. Might not be worth $25.00 or the $100.00 could be fair. Any equipment with it? Chucks, faceplates, etc.? Does it have the basics included like tool rests, spur, live center? Do be careful before laying down cash.

Of most of the Craftsman lathes I have seen, they are all pretty light which would cause vibration when turning bigger stuff. I guess you could always add sand bags to weigh it down. But for people to give accurate reviews you need a little more information. Especially, how old is it?

Stan, Frank and turned for good thanks you for the advise. Sorry I don't have more info., maybe later after I look at it and before I give a commitment I'll post a little more info.

Thanks again
