Andrew:
IF I'm thinking about the right saw, $75 is not a great price, here, but instead about the "usual" price for a used one.

If it is a recent 40-450, it was actually made by Porter Cable and sold at our Lowe's for about $125.

If it IS this saw, it's just an "ok" buy because it will use pinless blades (or pinned) blades. The PC saw was a real pain to load the pinless blades and a pinned blade is virtually useless for many small "pen type" projects, simply because the pin is too big to thread through many small cuts.

It does have a 16 inch radius, and a decent variable speed motor which makes it ok for bigger projects, just NOT ideal for pen work.

Respectfully submitted.

Does it look like this? If so, that is a great price, so grab it if you are interested! In regards to the type of blades you can use: they make modification kits so that you can use pinless blades. I guess the things to look for are:
~ how much rust does the table have on it.
~ have the joints been oiled on the scroll arms?
~ What is the total amount of hours on the saw?

I just checked Delta's website to make certain, and in 1998 Delta was still a Pentair product (great products). Porter Cable did not start making the Delta bench tools until 1999. IMHO, a BIG drop in quality from the Pentair products.

Is the table cast iron or aluminum?

Yeah good point on that question about the table being cast iron or aluminum. Cast iron is the only way to go. I was really bummed when I learned that dremel stopped making scroll saws. But no need to buy a new one if mine still works. However that big 20" dewalt looks like the best way to go when the time comes

I purchaced a Porter Cable saw from Lowes for 190dollars. It takes both pinned and pinless blades with no tools to change blades. It has a light, air blower, an adjustable table, and a stand. Im sure it's no Dewalt but it's less than half the price and so far it can do everything I'm capable of doing. The stand is just the right height for our bar stools to sit comfortably and work.
