I'm making a BUNCH of pens to give to the wonderful people who made my life so much easier for the past year. Because of the meds I take for RA, I have not been able to go into any stores for a year because of the pandemic. The people who shopped for me and delivered my purchases to my car in curbside pickup were lifesavers! Without them I would have had to hire someone to go grocery shopping for me, and to pick up my husband's insulin, which can't be mailed, etc. Also to the postal workers, UPS, FEDX and Amazon drivers who delivered everything else!

I can't turn right at the moment because I had to go off my RA meds for six weeks to let the vaccine have a fighting chance at building antibodies and my hands are still sore and swollen. (My meds are immunosuppressants.) My immune system suddenly said "I feel GREAT...lets go bite some joints!" and everything swelled up and got sore. It is taking a while to get back into remission. But I can cut and drill blanks and prep for turning. I just can't grab and hold a chisel right at the moment! I tried...no go!

So sorry your having a rough go but I do understand you being Thankful for those who stepped in to help out. The older my wife and I get the more the little things seem to matter. Even though the list you mentioned might be short I'm sure there are several more so you'll probably be busy when you get back to "Normal". Take Care and I'll pray you have a quick recovery.

Thanks, Kenny! Compared to some, my problems are all little ones! It just takes a little time for my meds to get the upper hand! I'm one of the very fortunate ones that my rheumatoid arthritis meds keep me in remission and able to do most anything I want!

Oh, I thought you meant that you cannot turn right, now, but you CAN still turn left ! .... LOL !

Sorry to hear you've been going through rough patch, Sharon.

But so good to read and sense the gratefulness in your message ... gratefulness for what you can do and things you will be able to get back to.

Hang in there !! . I always appreciate your contributions to IAP !!

Sharon,

The road of appreciation runs both ways, many of us have a great appreciation for you and your kindness...! 👍

You just reminded me of the possible situation Merissa will be confronted with when is her time to get the vaccines, contrary to what your reaction to the RA meds is/has been, Merissa has not been that lucky so if she has to go out of her meds for that long she will be in big troubles.

I hope you will be able to get back on to your meds and continue to live life a lot less painful and limiting.

Cheers
George

Hi Sharon:

Sharon,
So sorry to hear about the RA but so glad your meds work for you... I know it can be devastating to some... my cousin had RA so bad that by the time she was in her early 30's she was wheelchair bound and died before her 35th birthday. Wishing you the best when you get back on your meds.

I'm one of the lucky ones I think... while I do have a touch of arthritis in hands, not enough to slow use of them much. I've heard that arthritis passes through the mother and my mother did have some trouble with it, but nothing really debilitating. For someone pushing 80, I'm actually in really good health.

For all you do for the blind and seeing impaired, you do deserve a great reward. All the best for you going forward.

Funny, I had that same thought when I read my own post. English is such fun!

I thought of Merissa, too, when I had to go off my meds! I think it depends on which meds you are on. For me methotrexate was the one they were worried about. They reduced my dosage by 25 percent since last March and took me completely off it for the vaccine. The biologics apparently don't cause the same problem. I take both methotrexate and Remicade. The Remicade is an infusion every six weeks, but the methotrexate is a weekly home injection. I had just had a Remicade infusion a week before my vaccination, and was worried that it would keep the vaccine from working, but it didn't. I had a mild reaction to the second shot which I found reassuring, because it meant my immune system was responding and making antibodies.
