Lately our salt mill hasn't been working very well. It just wouldn't crush up salt fine enough. When I took it apart the reason became apparent. The grinding burr has been worn down with time. The old one is on the right. I'm glad I didn't sell any of these. Sadly I've given several as wedding gifts. Probably just make salt boxes and stick with pepper grinders.

Wow, we have the same type, we have been using ours for about 10 years or so and it is still working just fine. I will be checking it however.

If it came from us (Chef Specialties), I could get replacement parts for you.
Honestly, I have made hundreds of peppermills and a few salt grinders, but I have never made
a salt grinder for myself, so I don't know if they wear. I just looked at one (new) and the mating part to
that rotating piece is also designed to grind.

I have a 20 year old peppermill that works great.

But, in any case it would be an easy repair.

FWIW,
Ed
