I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this lathe, but for aspiring penturners on a tight budget, there's a sale going on at http://www.woodworkerssource.net/Me...708329&Category_Code=web_only&Product_Count=7 for the JET Pen Lathe, at the best price I've ever seen.

I had this lathe once...mamma always taught me that if I can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all...so I won't say anything about this lathe [:D]

For the same price, I believe I'd go for the Wilton mini at Amazon. Just my thoughts.

It's a loser!
I thnik you can turn a bette pen on a drill press.
Sorry Yo not this time.
First of all normal price without the "junk" they think they are throwing in is $129.00.
The 0 Morse taper limits to A mandrel kits.
2 speeds,on board wrenches strip out.
DAMHIKTT.

I'm with Fred and Stan.

I use the Wilton as a traveling lathe and, for that, it's great.

If you have a Menards handy, they sell the Wilton for 89.00 and sometimes on sale for as low as 64.00 (What I paid for mine)

As an aside, I was offered the Jet Pen lathe for less than the 99.00 and after trying it, I didn't buy it.

What kind of taper does the Wilton lathe have?
I would be interested in getting one for a "traveling" lathe also.
