Does anyone know how to make wood and metal rings like these

A friend recently asked me if I could fix one for him. He's lost the wood inlay from his and I think I have an idea to fix it. Just curious if anyone has done these and can tell how they do the inlay

btboone makes rings like that. don't know if he'll share the secret as those are his day job.

Yeah he has a patented process too from looking at his site.

The ring isn't a terribly expensive one according to the owner he'd just like to have it fixed. I don't have the room to tool up to make rings but I'd like to help him out.

Try turning a ring that will fit the inside of the inlay area of the ring shown, then crack it and glue it into the slot.
