Rikon lathe

Just got a new Rikon delivered. When changing belt speeds do you just allow the weight of the motor to set the belt tension or do I apply a little more pressure to keep it real tight? I assume get a spare or 2?

Scott, I just let the weight of the motor tension the belt, I have a spare onhand mostly because I live out in the sticks.

I put a little tension on it. My lathe is a few years old and is still running the original belt.

I also apply some tension to the belt before tightening. I have had my lathe almost 3 years and it is still the original belt.

I have had my rikon for 2 years. Still has the original belt. I love this lathe, I am about to purchase a larger lathe for bigger bowls. However, I will keep my rikon for pens and smaller treen!!

I also have one and the manufacture recommends the weight of the motor is all that is needed.
