I was fortunate enough to win third place in the Almost Daily Contest run by Curtis Seabeck and interfered with by PR_Princess....

One of the prizes I won was a sanding mill by rherrell (Rick). He contacted me and got my address, I told him I was going to order some other products from him and he could save on shipping.

It took about a week for me to put together what I wanted from his offerings and made my order. The items arrived safe and sound - got some great tools for TBC with my Shopsmith. They are all well done and a good addition to my shop. Missing from the box was the sanding mill.

So I contacted him about it, figuring that he had just forgotten about the Bash prize. Turns out he had gone ahead and shipped it right away and it got lost in the mail. :(

So he sent me another one! I offered to at least cover half the cost but he wouldn't have any of it. Even as a free prize donated to the IAP he took the lose on a product he sells, essentially giving two sanding mills instead of one.

I really appreciate his donation, his business service and for going the extra mile. I've used the sanding mill and wish I had gotten one sooner. I started turning between centers and wish I had started sooner.

Thanks Rick! (Also thanks to Curtis for the contest and to PR_Princess for making it hard enough that others couldn't keep up!

I agree that Rick is a great guy, and that his tools ( and service) are superb. I've ordered from him a couple of times and will again. He even made up a "special request." I ordered one of his flat top tool rests to use with the EasyWood carbide pen chisel. It gives wonderful support and puts the hand in a very comfortable position. I asked whether he could make a stop collar because I found it a pain to carefully line up the height so that the edge of the chisel would be at the recommended center line each time I switched to this tool. He made a beautiful stop collar - which I see he now lists on his site. So now, I rough a square blank with my gouge, remove the rest, and drop in Rick's flat top with the stop collar in place. Switch to the EasyWood in nothing flat. No more fiddling! And if I choose to use the skew in scraper mode to straighten out the line, I just raise it up a bit. Gives the flat skew great support and much steadier than a conventional rest. If I want to go back to the carbide, just drop it down to the stop collar and have at it. It's a thing of beauty! Russ

So you're the reason I was able to order a flat top tool rest...I probably wouldn't have thought of it myself, but I agree it is pretty sweet.

Nope. Not me. I MAY have just inspired the stop collar. If you don't have that too, get it! You'll be glad you did. Russ
