Below are four pictures I captured off of a Revolutionary War reenactment and discussion group I belong to. The pen pictured is stated to be a British officers traveling desk set. Unfortunately, the pictures are not good quality as they were shot through glass in a museum display using flash. The taker/poster had good intentions but did not get good quality images. I haven't really figured out how the rig works. There is a quill depicted on the paper backing of the working diagram. Methinks, that maybe the quill was inserted into the tube for travel. The top of the tube seems to have a pointed device. I have no idea what that may have been used for. The unit is made from a whitish material, could be bone, antler or wood. Anyones guess. One of these days, (when I get ambitious
) I may try to replicate the set. Could be an interesting project. The picture labeled 'Brit pen enhanced' is a portion of one of the other pictures I tricked with in Photoshop in an attempt to get a better image. p.s. hope they are viewable, the original images were small and low resolution, best I could do.
