I just thought I would reintroduce myself. I have been turning off and I. And when I moved to an apartment I thought I would be done with turning and parted with most of my equipment, like an idiot. So now I have moved to South Dakota and purchased a new lathe. The turncrafter commander 12in variable speed. Seems very nice. Except I have an extra part I can't find in the manual anywhere and the speed indicator starts at 470 when the knob is turned all the way down.

Anyone who has one and has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Now I'm off to search for more cutting tools.

Welcome back to the Fold! Although I'm officially a Nebraskan I guess, I'm originally a South Dakota boy. I grew up in Springfield and lived in Yankton for a short while before moving to Nebraska in about 1985. Where did you move to? - Dave

The 2 large black pieces & screws attach to the back of the lathe as cable supports. The other piece with knob and shaft I can't figure out.

What leehjlp and clarmorrell said - knob and shaft are used to hold the door on the lower left side of the lathe closed. I had to go to the manual to figure that one out myself - mostly because I never could get it to hold the nut when I tried to get my big mitts in that chamber to thread it on.
I've tossed it off to the side and haven't missed it.

And ~440 is the lowest mine goes as well.
