Is there such a thing? After 50 years, I have found myself enjoying writing with a RB. The only problem is, in several instances, I have forgotten to return the cap to the pen. I have ruined at least two shirts and have had a grand time removing ink from my chest :smile:. I would even go as far as liking to see one retract and have a cap. Has this been invented yet?

Since there is no issue with off the shelf g2 rollerballs which are clicks drying out, seems like they would be ok in a kit as well?

Too bad someone does not make a rollerball click kit - the g2 is really popular so probably a nice pen would be as well.

G2 would work in a modified pen, but they aren't technically rollerballs, in my understanding. I could be wrong.

Cap on a retractable RB..

Hey, I bet they laughed at the guy/gal who invented the screw top on milk cartons. I was 7 when I thought of that. Instead, I spent the next 30 years opening the cardboard milk container from the wrong end and shake it all over the kitchen (I shake everything).

I am too old, but someone will invent the capped, retractable RB...and before they design CA bottle cap that is still removable after the second time you open it.:smile:
 
They make click sharpies so why not a click RB. the sharpies have a little door inside that folds out of the way when you click and folds back to cover the tip when you retract.
 
My motivation for retractable RB

This may make you laugh. Last week this was a $55 polo shirt. A few days ago, it became a $55 rag to remove my Meguiar's 105 and 205 from my acrylic finish. I always wear a pen (not the ink) since I started this a few months ago. It was my first RB (Rollester) and I left home without the cap on it. It also explained the stabbing chest pains. :smile:

It did scare Lori when when she pulled it out of wash. I also have Alumilite dye on 3 of 5 pairs of jeans now. Give me a few more days, I will get in on the others. :-). It is good to be able to laugh at yourself.

I built a click rollerball using the Schmidt click mechanism available through Richard Greenwald. I used 3/8 tubing and a spring at both ends. One at the front to lift it back up and one for the back. Its biggest problem is that the travel needed to make it work doesnt allow it to retract very far into the nosecone. Which means any lint in your shirt pocket causes a leak. DAMHIKT
 
I was think about something similar last night. I did think abou the lint issue though. Thanks!

Yes, there is a retractable fountain pen. I have owned one for over 22 years and never had a problem. It is a Namiki and it doesn't leak. It sits in the pocket with the nib end pointing up. It has a small rubber door that opens when the pen is in a writing direction. You can use a roller ball refill in almost any pen that takes a parker refill. I order refills from Schmidt and it writes like roller ball.

What if you shorten the spring length? Wouldn't it retract further and not leak?

I have a tendency to always wipe my hands on the sides and seat of my pants... so now I have pants for the shop and pants to be seen in public in... same with shirts... so I now make it a point to change before going to the shop... I own no $55 polos and if I did and ruined it, would NEVER hear the end of it... :smile:

I'd almost say you need to find a new place to buy polo shirts....I have yet to see the first polo shirt that I'd give $55.00 for.
