I need to "unscrew" the shaft from one of my MT2 pen mandrels. Before I ruin the shaft or the MT2, please tell me how you have successfully done this. I want to screw in a different item into the MT2 end.

Thanks in advance for the help

I did this once a long time ago as I don't use it anymore but I think mine had Loc Tite on it. I was able to use a draw bar through the head stock to keep it tight and use vise grips on it.

lock the taper in the headstock (or tailstock) taper and grip the shaft with vice grips using a fiber or rubber gasket material as a pad to prevent the jaws dinging it.

Alternatively, you can thread two nuts on the threaded end of the shaft with a tad of blue locktite and thread them against each other to make a bolt head of sorts to use a wrench on. The locktite may not be needed if you thread the nuts against each other tightly enough but is easily removed so it just saves some frustration if it ends up needing it to use it in the first place.
