About a year ago I was cleaning out an elderly ladies barn and I found this 18"x 8" burl buried under a bunch of junk. She gave it to me and for months now I have been pondering what to do with it. I finally decided to cut it open and find out what treasure was hidden inside. I cut 6" off the large end for a bowl and sliced off a hunk to cut into blanks. The blank on the left side of the picture was used to make the Bolt Action Pen. I hope that I did you all proud. :highfive:

Nice pen. That root will never die because you saved it and will make things from it that will last forever! That is one beautiful piece! Nice pen great wood!

Nice finish. Thanks for posting. I have a piece of redwood root burl that I've been trying to figure what to do with. Now I have an idea what to expect it might look like.

Very nice. There is a great amount of pretty wood for sale but you can't buy a good story with it so to me it adds something extra to the final product.
