A recent turning with inspiration from Rebecca DeGroot. Maple, painted black, then applied iridescent pant.

I woke up to a pleasant surprise this morning. It seems my mystery critter was pregnant and had twins during the night. Both mom and babies are doing OK. It is still a mystery as to what type of critter this is. Well, after initial study of ancient research works, I may have discovered the identity of the mystery critter. I think it is the allusive Needle Iridescosaurus, seen only in the Peruvian Jungles of the Amazon. It has long been considered extinct because they have not been seen in hundreds of years. They apparently have the ability to change their coloring, hence the iridescent colors, to blend in with the surrounding foliage, making them almost invisible. This particular one is about 7" long and his body is ~2" in dia. The babies are ~3" long and the body is ~1" in dia. They feed mostly on other small insects and live under decaying plant matter.
I would welcome any additional findings from other researchers on this newly rediscovered species.
