Recommend an EXPANDING collet chuck?

I have a couple of shaving brush blanks drilled and waiting for a collet chuck to mount up and turn. I have the PSI contracting collet set (haven't used them yet).

Is there one you'd recommend, or maybe better, any that you'd say to stay away from?

The hole I'm mounting in is too small for the pin jaws on my SN chuck.

Why not just use a piece of wood dowel, turned to just fit your 20, 22 mm hole?

If it doesn't quite hold, add 2 sided tape to the dowel. (Or a piece of toilet paper, depending on the amount of extra you need)

I'm loath to try something like that because of memories of the wooden dowels shattering when trying to turn bottle stoppers. I now use a 3/8" threaded rod and have MUCH better success.

I'll give it a try...but how do you turn the end of the blank after pulling the tail stock away? If it isn't secured to the dowel/rod, it'll just spin and go flying.
 
Here is how I turn my brush handles. A cheap 3/8" hanger bolt and a nut, I used a hanger bolt because I had some a regular 3/8 bolt with the head cut off might be better. i use my 4 jaw chuck but it would work in a collet chuck or a drill chuck.
Drill the hole for the brush head, change bits to a letter O and drill and drill an inch or more deeper, thread with a 3/8x16 tap and screw the mandrel in.

Brilliant! Easy! Thanks. I'll give that a shot. I can use my Jacob's chuck for it (less knuckle mangling that way!).
