I got a call from a woman in December saying that they were partners with DC in the "Go-Green" initiative.

Okay.

Does your office have a water cooler?

Yeah.

We'd like to talk to you about switching to a water filter and stopping the need for water bottles which take a lot of energy to recycle.

Um, according to Deerpark, the jugs are sterilized and reused. Not the high energy recycling.

Well, they won't really tell us what they do so do you want to take a chance?

Why don't you send me some info on this and I'll get back to you. (I was really getting bored with the call)

I then get an email with a link to an article written by a obviously very biased (likely paid) advocate about the sins of bottle water and info on a testing of 176 brands.

I delve a little deeper into the test and see that the test is only about disclosure on labels and web-sites of 1) source of water 2) treatment of the water and 3) purity test results. No actual testing of the water was done, just a look at the label and a search of the web-site.

Complete waste of my time. I emailed her back pointing out that it had nothing to do with Recycling or "go-green" and saying don't bother calling again.

Was she trying to sell you a filter or just asking you to buy one instead of habing a water cooler. People will do ANYTHING to sell you SOMETHING. They try to piggy back on the "hot" topics. Everyone seems to want to go "green" lately. Not sure what's different now that ten years ago, but it's "all the rage" these days...
And I'd like to know where all those water filters go!! All the ones that I have seen are made of PLASTIC, just like a water bottle!

My fridge has a water filter. Like Jeremy said, it's made of plastic. The label on the filter clearly states to replace it EVERY 6 months. It does NOT state to recycle it so it ends up in the garbage. How's that for "going green"?

Some like the words

Some folks just like the words "go-green" makes them feel good to say "I'm going green". Still want the cheapest gas for their SUV, and the lowest priced electric power to run their air conditioner, furnace, stove, micro-wave, TV etc. Still want the latest and greatest electronic devices all of which are made of plastic....but like to think they've "gone green" because they started using thinner toilet tissue.

Amen....
 I guess I'm not going green anytime soon. I love thick toilet tissue...

Ya know, I've gotten similar sales calls from high pressure jerkwads while I was (much to their misfortune) extremely bored. I kept them on the phone NOT making sales for the entire time it took me to play through one of my older video games (at least 2 hours). By the time I let them hang up they were angry about staying 45 minutes late to try to finish a sale. I asked for a number to call back and order after I thought it over. Never got another call from them. Weird.
