Raise if the Chuck bit you lately. Using a 3 jaw chuck I nipped my fingertip.... ouch. Starting to turn dark. Woke me up real good. I'll get even with it😁

It's been a few years, but I did that with a big metal lathe while I was polishing a piece. Thankfully it was a four jaw chuck and spinning around 3000 rpm, so not enough time to get much flesh in the gaps. Still scared the crap out of me and taught me be a lot more wary of the machinery

I'm obsessive about safety in my shop (I can't afford to lose any fingers, I'm using those!). So far I have not had much bad luck. Worst injury in my shop was the (unfortunately super predictable and avoidable) mistake of trying to hold thin pieces of aluminum stock by hand while drilling a hole through them. Minor lacerations that healed up in a few days, but I had to roll my eyes at my own stupidity for that one.

I force myself to imagine the damage to my fingers, eyes, etc. while using power tools. I have had some small injuries, none requiring stitches and don't want it to happen again. I had cataract removal and lens replacement in 2018 and always had to wear glasses before that. I wore safety glasses all the time because I didn't care what they looked like and glasses are expensive. I now have to remember safety glasses all the time.

uh huh. Bought a new set of domed jaws for when I am working tight to the chuck - definitely a plus. I also highlight the jaws with a wrap of yellow masking tape when I know things are getting a bit touchy.

Another thing...the chuck key or the 2 rods... I paint mine red...I did turn the lathe on once and they were not removed. Almost lost my best friend😂
