R2 and R4 Carbide inserts

Where can I buy the Carbide inserts for the Skogger I bought a few years from someone on this site Need to replace them they can't cut my finger any more

All I know is they are square and are labled RE-2 and R-4 Can't find my metric tape or ruler either one. The insert is 9/16" square with four cutting surfaces. They use to be sold on here but don't the the vendor is active any more


Just check the old classified section found the vendor as Woodchuck Pen Pro. Tried to go on site and was greeted with rec screen saying Malware was present.

I know that I am stating the obvious: just make sure the inserts that you buy are compatible with your tool. I have EZ Wood and not all inserts were compatible. The AZCarbide ones were and half the price of EZ Woods. I do wish I knew about insert compatibility before buying the EZ tools. I also wish I knew had to use a skew before buying EZ :-). Naturally, I would have loved to patronize our suppliers first.

That may be the case, and I generally prefer to deal with IAP vendors. That being said, I've used both 'quality' inserts and those from Holbren. From my experience, performance and durability have been pretty much the same. The major difference has been the price.
 
Thanks all ordered them from Bear Tooth Woods. Now the Grandkids can make pens over Labor Day Weekend. The 14 year old made 13 during his visit. He will be wanting to make more along with his sister and brother and their Cousins here.
 
Just keep in mind with Global that you'll be buying 10 at a time, but that should last you a VERY long time unless you'll be turning stone like me ... :bulgy-eyes:
 
Found what I need ordered paid for and they are on their way. They should last me a while but with the Grandkids turning plastic and resin they will take some wear. Every once in awhile they try to make Sierra bushings 7mm bushings not good for any cutter.

Check source of 'origin'. Best solid carbide that I have used are from Germany. There is no comparison to those coming out of China. It's about durability and quality of cut but I won't hammer this aspect to death. It's been well stated that many IAP carbide turners here simply purchase on price and while they may think that their tool (performs) well, it's just not at optimum performance. Thanks for hearing me with my little sermon.
 
I support Cap'n Eddie's Big Guy Productions. R2 cutters are $29.00 for three with screws. Call him and he will split bags for you. When they stop cutting your finger find another sharp tool.

I have another question, can these be resharpened economically? Can they be dressed using a diamond hone? may have to go out to the some and find out this afternoon.
 
Use a credit card sized diamond file?

PSI sells them.

Just lay the carbide bit upside down (flat against the card surface) and rub it around in a circle for 10 - 15 seconds and you should be good to go ... (don't cut yourself!)
