My sister is Physicians Assistant and has a masters in it. I'd like to do a pen for her to use at work but can't think of any ideas for a medical related idea for a pen.

Any ideas?

I would definitely use a click pen -- like the Long Click Pen from CSUSA. For a smaller, female hand, maybe a patriot click pen, or a shortened sierra click (although the long click mechanism is a whole lot better). I'm not usually a fan of laser engraved embellishments on pens, but maybe have medical symbol engraved and color filled, possibly along with her name and the "PA" designation. For a female, I would use a nice synthetic material, like the pink coral tru-stone, red jasper tru-stone, or turquoise tru-stone.

Probably the simplest method is to use a caduceus clip, which is available for the slimline kit in 24k gold plating. I made a slimline pen for my brother-in-law's orthopaedic surgeon out of the foreleg bone from a whitetail deer with a caduceus clip. I used the ulna (which is one of the bones the surgeon repaired) and it went over quite well.

Most medical practicioners however, prefer click pens (because they can be operated with one hand). Pens that are easy to clean (like acrylic) are also popular.

Regards,
Eric

I've made a bunch of Euros in acrylic with the cadeuceus clip and they are a BIG hit with LOMLs coworkers and friends.

How about an acrylic in her favorite color?

If she is a history buff, how about ancient kauri, bog oak, or even American chestnut.

How about an acrylic engraved like a thermometer or perhaps like a hypodermic needle. You could cast it in white, add any color you want, engrave the lines/numbers and finish with heavy CA. You could even segment it a bit to get the business end or the plunger of the needle. Or, you could just tell Skiprat or one of the other creative superstars around here that you double-dog-dare them to try to make a pen that looks like a hypodermic needle. Just a thought...

I have dealt with a number of nurses and the doctors office staff and the most requested pen is the full size necklace pen so they don't disappear. If you want to personalize it for her, do an inlay or have it engraved.
