As most of you know by now, I am from UK, and living in Thailand. Do any of you guys, over the pond, repair fractured bandsaw blades, using brazing wire, and blowlamp, Also, furthermore, do any of you guys, Sharpen your blades, using a Stubbs file? (As we did in England). dontheturner

I have silver solder connected broken ends Will not work with kinks.

I do resharpen bandsaw blades (bi-metalic) with a grinding point in the gullet side -- get about 70% return of the function and can do it a few times -

B/S Blade repairing

Thanks, for the confirmation - the folks here in the tool shops, have no idea what I am saying! - even with my Wife's Interpretation of the language! Blowlamp? what do I mean, so a photograph seems called for! thanks again dontheturner

We here on this side of the world generally weld or braze our blades. I've attached a plan for a simple blade welder that you should be able to scrounge for the parts on your side of the world.

Good Luck!

Wow that lil blade welder takes a lil skill to cobble together....LOL
My thoughts exactly, But I have saved the whole ducument, as it is a brilliant concept. I have a welding jig, made for my by an engineer, but on moving here, did not bring the blowlamp with me, as I knew I would not get the small gas bottles needed for it here in thailand. Now I have to go on ebay again. Then pay shipping! dontheturner

Regarding Bandsaw blade brazing, I was taught to use the jig, which I had made for me, by a guy who was employed and served his apprenticeship, with Rolls Royce in Shrewsbury UK, and it has served me well in the UK., I took a close up of it, for anyone interested. The two ends of the blade break, should be ground to 45 degrees, in opposition, and both tinned with braze, before lining up and heating again, when they will align perfectly.

Blade brazing - omission!

Sorry, could not add the attachment, here it is dontheturner

Don. Any of the jewlers use a micro flame torch some of them are portable for out of shop work. Perhaps you can talk to them for help.

Thanks, Seawolf - jesus, what am I forgetting? my Father was in business, as a Watch maker & Jeweller - in Walsall, for many years. but for silver soldering, his ''Britool flame'' was powered with Metylated Spirit, as there was no mini Gas cylinders then, Thanks again. I will look around - doing that here, is so interesting. donthetunrer
