I bought a used Nova DVR XP lathe about 5 months ago. LOVE the feel of the lathe - smoothness, controls, etc. However, the previous owner must have done something to affect the Morse taper on the headstock, since it's rough. (I've cleaned it with the little green thing, scrubby, etc.) Anyway, although an indicator gauge on the outside of the spindle reads well less than .001 runout, on the INSIDE, it reads .003+. When insert a dead center, the runout at the tip can vary from about .005 to .012. In any case, there is a noticeable vibration when turning between centers so that pens are not perfectly round. In exploring the problem with Teknatool, they informed that their tolerance for runout inside the spindle is <.005! I really like this lathe, but can't live with the problem. Not sure I could take the spindle out myself to have the taper re-worked. Might sell this lathe and buy a new one, but I don't want to wind up with the same problem after spending a LOT more money. Have any other owners had problems with spindle runout? I'd really appreciate hearing from you. Russ
