Hello all,

I have a question about my lathe motor. First, i have a jet 1440 lathe and everything was running good when applying CA and stopped it to check it and when I turned it back on, it sat there and buzzed. But when I nudged the hand wheel, it started running. But it was running backwards. So I turned it back off and nudged it the correct way and it started back up in the correct direction. So now every time I go to start it, I have to nudge it as I flip the switch to get it running. But it also has lost some umps when tuning down a block. So just wondering if its the brushes or the actual motor it's self. So any feedback would be very helpful.

Be carefull when unsoldering, replacing power off plug in your pocket short out across the connections of the cap mostly they had an arrow replacement same way even use the label facing the same way can help. Capacitor classic symptoms.

Kind regards Peter.

I greatly appreciate it and know that I can still run, I just have to bump start it till I get a new capacitor or motor. Would like to switch to a V.S., but not sure if its worth it with working so much with two jobs. On e again, thank you for the help with this.

Timothy; Some motors have a centrifugal switch as a start switch. Saw dust can get in the switch and keep it from closing. Jet is a good company, so call them and ask about the motor. Write down the information plate on the motor before you call. Don't replace the motor, it isn't necessary! Any motor repair shop can fix the motor for a few dollars, or you can do it yourself.
