Question about Beall collet chuck

I took my Beall Collet chuck apart the other day to change collet sizes. I was looking at the inside of that outer ringer and there are two rings inside, and each one isn't perfectly round. They're sort of elliptical and offset some. It seems to work fine, so I'm assmuning it's supposed to be this way, but does anyone know why? I'm just curious...

Yes, they're fine. Designed as such to allow the ER32 collet to 'snap' in and lock tightly as you tighten the collet nut. I don't know how I did without a Beall up to now. Great piece of machining.

Yup. Supposed to be that way. That ring that is elliptical is what you "snap" the collet into and provides the self-extracting function to the assembly. You'll see that if you don't tip the collet and slip it into that ring, it won't sit quite correct in the chuck and won't be flush to the face once installed.
