What type blade should I get to cut up some of my raw logs and pieces? probably 2-6 in thick. This is for straight cuts, no radius. TPI? Rake? skip tooth? total novice in this area

I've heard good things about Highland Woodworking's Wood Slicer blades, and they have a specific blade marketed for wood turners that might be of use to you. Bandsaw Blades I don't have experience with either, but they are on my "to consider" list when I need to order new bands.
Whichever you choose, I highly encourage anyone with a bandsaw to watch Alex Snodgrass' bandsaw clinic, and apply his set-up techniques. You won't be sorry that you did.
Call Ellis Band Saw Blades, Bandsaws, Drill Press and Beltgrinder | Ellis Mfg These guys rock! I may use one bland a year and I cut 12" logs all the time. These will chat your ear off making sure you get the right stuff. I know 6-7 professional turners that use there stuff. I don't get anything from them...just buy great blades.
if in doubt, I'd call Suffolk and ask them - but their chart says either a 1" x 2 "positive claw" or a 1"x1" 79SS bi-metal blade for milling logs or resawing green boards.
