I'm having trouble with Purpleheart and walnut being faded after I sand. The Purpleheart turns grayish and the walnut is a light gray. They have great color when I start turning. Am I sanding to heavy and the heat is doing something to the color?? Any ideas? Thanks Rich H.

Rich,

Heat will bring purpleheart back to a nice color. I have also read that exposing purpleheart to the fumes of muratic (pool cleaner) acid will turn it a nice cranberry color. I don't know about the walnut burl, though.

My latest pen was a purpleheart ( Heartwood and sapwood)Baron. It has a CA BLO finish. I left it out in the sun for a couple of hours and since then it has been kicking about in my pocket. It has been getting darker and Darker purple over the last week. So go ahead and finish it in my view
