Here's a picture of the crew finishing the slab for our house. Slab gets poured at 4 AM Tuesday morning. ICF walls go up probably starting Friday/Saturday next week.

When we where going to build our house we were going to use ICF, but we could not afford to build so we bought a existing house instead. I have a question here in Michigan most people have basements, is there a reason for not having a basement or crawl space?

Much of the soil conditions around contains a lot of clay. During dry weather, the soil expands/contracts a lot. The soil movement places a lot of stress on the foundation.

A basement will often crack due to the soil pulling away from the walls.

We have footings that are about 3 feet deep with the beams being about 1 foot. Steel rebar is laced through the footings and across the slab for strength.

My current house has a lot of foundation problems we've had corrected. I don't want the new house to move an inch.
