Does anyone here have the Professional (adjustable) pen mandrel?

Is the collet a separate piece from the MT# shaft and collet closer nut?

I got one but the mandrel was tightened so much that I couldn't get it out. I was able to drive it out with a punch pin, but it will not go back in. It appears that the collet is too tight into the MT# holder to allow the collet to "release".

If the collet is a separate piece, any suggestions on how to release the collet appreciated.

I don't want to mess up the collet.

I may try WD40, because it should move and doesn't.

Hey Randy

I'm pretty sure my adjustable mandrel is one piece . The MT has a collet at the end with a nut to adjust the rod . I haven't used it that much since I started turning mandrel-less , between centers .

I know the adjustable mandrel requires the use of two 7/8 wrenches to adjust it other then that I have no ideas to help .

My adjustable mandrel has a removable collet, I think they're all designed that way. Take the tightening nut completely off, and then tap the mandrel shaft out of the collet with a drift punch, the collet should come loose and pop out. If it's still jammed, slide the shaft back in just a little bit and work it around until the collet pops out. You want to keep the inside and outside of the collet lightly lubed to minimize the chances of jamming again.

Thanks Mike; I was able to get the collet out by inserting a transfer punch pin into the collet from the front and wriggling it sideways. The collet looks like an miniature R8 collet. There appeared to be lube on the collet. I will have to remember how to remove the collet if it gets jammed again.
