In the interest of the drill bits group buy I am trying to organize, I am looking for a small number (3-5) of drill bit testers.
There are a few requirements though.
1. you need to have some experience such as working in a machine shop or other experience that gives you above average opinion about the bits.
2. I have done this sort of thing in the past and not gotten people to post there comments. So this time I'm charging a refundable deposit of $20.00 that I will give back once your evaluation has been posted. i will create a thread to post this evaluation in.
3. this is not a good way to get free drill bits. as I would like them to be worn out or broken when you are done if needed.
4. I will be making a list of specific details I want evaluated. these will include but not be limited to
a. measuring any run out in the bit as it is chucked in a drill press.
b. evaluating quality of finish and machining.
c. estimating average number of uses until it is dull, broken or burned up.
d. it's performance on extreme materials like oak, Iron wood, acrylics, and possibly even iron or steel. (I'm thinking drill through Iron until bit is to dull to drill any more just to see how long it holds up).
e If possible how it preforms after being resharpened.
f. If you can't destroy it then feel free to keep it
g. how it performs at chip clearing and overheating in deep holes. (remember we ask extreme performance in our bits in this regard)
h. basically anything you can think of to abuse it and see how well it holds up. Broken is not a bad thing as long as you have a way of measuring just how far it was pushed before it broke.
As an example I have a machinist shop at work that I will take a few of the bits to to get the managers comments. I expect him to be able to compare it to other bits of other quality and materials, as well as price. i am not looking for HSS to perform like cobalt.
HSS bits can be made from at least 5 different types of steel. having some knowledge of this and some experience with bit made from some of these other alloys would be a big plus.
Please post here, e-mail me or PM me if you are interested in being considered as a tester.
