I offered a local woodworker a free pen in exchange for some of his scraps. Along with half a dozen different kinds of wood he gave me, there was a slab of 20 year old birdseye maple like I have never seen. It was 2" x 5 " x about 18" long. I got a lot of pen blanks out of it and have used more than half of them already. Everybody that sees this wood wants a pen made from it.
I wish now that I had reserved some of it for bottle stoppers before cutting it all into pen blanks.
