Powdercoat cost

I just checked with someone who does custom powdercoating in my area.
Because of time involved and the learning curve,I am looking to job them out rather than do it myself.
I got a price of $20.00 for 12 casings.
I can get 30 done for $45.00.
How does this sound for a price?
I don't mind addng it to the cost of the pen,
just wondering if any one has ever calculated a per piece price.
Thurnaround time is within the same day.

The entry cost of powder doating is a couple of hundred dollars. The learning curve is not that steep. The actual unit cost of powder coating is cheap, but there's time involved as well. Less than $2 per unit for shell casings sounds like a good deal to me.

The price for getting parts powdercoated in my hometown was prohibitive...I think because they(the PCer) didn't want to do such small pieces so he priced it so high...hoping I wouln't take it and if I did he would make some extra $$$. I was quoted $300 for parts for 100 pens. Forget that!

That's when I started investigating hobbyist PC systems. You can almost purchase the PCer from Harbor Freight for just a little more than the 30 piece price....It is often on sale for $59.99. You need an air compressor and an oven to bake the parts. I use a toaster oven I got at a thrift store for $5.00. Then you can PC other parts and the colors are...well, not endless,...but there are lots to choose from. PCing is not difficult and takes very little time. The most time is spent cleaning the parts. Polishing the brass...I don't have a tumbler so I buff each piece of brass and clean with DNA prior to coating. I can PC enough brass for 12 pens at one time. I will be glad to share what I know but the guy who wrote the above tutorial and I both learned from the same mutual friend. It is simple, easy and you get a new tool to play with.

I plan to try the powder coating myself but there is a time frame involved in this case.
Maybe the guy will do it in trade,

Nope you're right, it doesn't.
The problem is I don't do 30 of anything(except cigarettes in a day)
Once they are powder coated I am commited to a design.
Kind of takes the uniqueness out of it.
I certainly would not want to have to get 30 ready all at once.
I do want to do these production line.

Epoxy would be a good alternative, if you could get CLEAR EPOXY.
