Should we add "last visited" date to the member list?

The Member List, which is only visible to logged-on members, does not currently include the "last visited" date. I can make it appear there with one click, but I've never put it there because I have perceived that as a privacy issue. I thought perhaps that people would not want others to know when they've visited.

Recently, I realized that this might be a helpful piece of information when members are trying to contact each other. But before I add that field to the page, I thought I'd see what you think.

Vote and feel free to comment below.

Hi Jeff,

I can that be more an advantage to everyone than not, I can't see why anyone would consider that information to be private when it not disclose where he or she have been, what was read or said so, I don't see any problem.

In the issue of privacy, from the moment you log in, that fact can be verified by anyone in this forum, simply by going into the member name profile statistics. Is the info on when a member have last logged in, something that should be kept only for registered member after logged in or simply available to any "visitors" without requiring to register...???

Well, I think it would defeat the purpose of what you are trying to achieve if that info is not available for non-members/visitors however, I can see why some people may have a problem with it but, if asked why, they may have difficulty in explain it...!

As far as I'm concerned, doesn't bother me the slightest...!

Cheers
George

Sounds great---you can currently see when you posted last, but when you visited will tell me if you had a chance to read that PM I sent you. (Hypothetical, don't look Jeff, I haven't sent you one today).

I think this would be very helpful.

This same info can be viewed in the public profile of the member. Which makes me somewhat confused as to the 'no' poll question. As for benefits goes I suppose that would allow users to sort members by activity date and find how many unique members has been active on IAP for a set period of time.

Ed Street make a good point. With this info on the member profile, there's no need for it elsewhere.

Thanks anyway, and sorry to bother!

Poll is closed and thanks if you voted.

Yeah, I thought that I pointed that out when I said "In the issue of privacy, from the moment you log in, that fact can be verified by anyone in this forum, simply by going into the member name profile statistics"

I'm I confused...??

Cheers

I see that 11% said they do not wish that info to be disclosed so on their behalf I would like to ask is there some way to hide that info on the member page?

Not everyone has it showing so there is a way to turn if off. I don't know how to do it though......

Wonder if it is the invisible mode?

Correct. You can hide that data.

Jeff, Happy to have "last visited" on this web page!
Now, if I could just get someone to update the Kits tech. listing that Wayne did such a great job on initially, I would be happy in 2014~~!! Happy New Year! Philip

it may be useful unless their profile shows them from the state of confusion and still a noob since 2007... ahem, like some people?!

I believe that Wayne is working on that.

The poll went up and came down very quick, so I didn't get a chance to vote so the No vote would have been lower than 11% as I would have voted yes.

Sometimes it is important to see if someone you sent a PM to has been around to read it and if not I would try to get to them thru other sources. Also, as this seems to have a couple retirees on the site, and you don't see someone who is a regular checking in, you might want to reach out to them to see if they are all right.

I'm at a loss for the privacy thing, does anyone care about the last time you looked at REI or Target? It would really help determine who is contact-able or not. This may sound rude...but what if they are no longer with us...as in alive or dead. Sorry, I really couldn't find a simple way to say that. Maybe they could care less about pens anymore. After all that crap...good idea.

I think it would be useful, if only to show who are still active members. For instance, if I wanted to pm someone in Phoenix to ask about some local wood turning event for example, I might go through the member list looking for someone in my area. I could tell if the person listed in the member list was still an active member or if he hadn't been on the forum since 2010.

;) Don't forget my tag line about telling the truth ;)

I have modified the Member List to include the last visited date. Anyone who would prefer that information not be displayed can select the "Use Invisible Mode" option in their profile, which hides that data from the public profile view and the member list. That option is at the top of the "Edit Options" pane of your UserCP. The UserCP pick is on the navigation bar at the top of every page at the site.

Comment, questions, concerns welcome.

Is there a way to search for members by location or last name or maybe by interest?

There is no set format for the location field, so you can try multiple variations of your city/state. We are still working on implementing a postal code search.

EDIT: you can use the Advanced Search for that.

IF you use the advanced search, realize it does not have a brain. If you want all members in Florida, search for Florida, Fla, Fl---anyone who listed their state in any one of these ways will show up. If they mis-spelled Florda, or left the field blank, you won't find them.

EDIT IN: IF you search for FL, you probably WILL get all the deviations, as long as they start with FL!!

"N/A" in the Last Visit field means that the date is not available for that user, i.e. the user has selected invisible mode.
