Here is a poplar natural Edge bowl I turned with some neat coloring.
I finished with two coats of Danish Oil Finish and buffed.

Good looking bowl!! I know that in flat work poplar is viewed as a "secondary" or "paint" wood, but I've seen some beautiful green & purple sections, and some crotch lumber with some very nice shimmer. I like working it flat.
