Making the polymer clay blanks is the art form. My hat is off to all those that do this intricate work.

Adding a CA finish and assembly isn't that big of a deal *G*
 
James, I agree with the InvisibleMan.
I can't see anything simple about your blank.
It is beautiful, subtle colour palate, figured background, with noticable small butterflys.
It's Great.
Terrific Fit and Finish.
My personal thought, I love the piece of timber in the Photograph, but would prefer that you made it into a pen, and not use it in your photograph, it detracts me from the Pen, the object of the Photograph.

Just to clarify- I did not make the blanks . They are ones others make and sell on their own or through vendors.

Have been thinking about 'playing' with some clay, and from my limited research so far...this ain't simple!

Use google to find tips for doing the canes. Even basic canes can make some interesting patterns.
