Looking for information on how PlastiX is being used to polish a CA finish. Do you apply it with the lathe running and buff off? How much do you use? Lathe at high speed or low? Tried it on my last pen and wasn't very impressed with the results, but I think it was me not the product that was the problem.

I apply it with my finger with the lathe off - doesn't seam to make much difference if I put a light coat or heavy coat. Then I buff with old t-shirt at about 1800 - 2000 rpm.

I've been happy with the result

I apply a small dab of PlastiX on a clean paper towel with the lathe off. I then turn the lathe on to the same speed as I applied the CA. Hold a clean section of the paper towel to the blank and polish to a really nice shine.

I put a liberal amount on a small piece of an old t-shirt and wipe it all over the blank. I then turn the blank on medium to high speed and pinch the blank with the same piece of cloth. Back and forth over the blank a couple of times and then do the same with a clean dry piece of t-shirt. Shines like we glass.

That's all I use on my ca finishes and it works great IMO. I use two coats, first one applied with an old t-shirt with lathe off, then turn lathe on slow speed initially until starting to shine than run speed up while lightly buffing with cloth. 2nd coat added with lathe at slow speed, little dab will do ya, when shine starts one more buff at high speed. Don't use a lot of pressure at high speed because it will get everything too hot and that isn't good.

I put just a dab on an old dish towel and with the lathe running, I rub it on the blank. I continue to apply with the same cloth. When it has all been worked into the blank, I switch to a clean dry cloth and polish it to a shine. The lathe is on its slowest speed.
I have used two coats but find that one is enough.

Are you first sanding the CA finish with micro mesh?
That's what I do .... Once I have several coats of CA built up I sand through all grits of the MM pads, THEN apply the PlastX with a small cotton pad ... Slow at first just to cover the blank then speed it up ... finishing up with a fresh area of he pad buffing it at the highest speed.

I go through the last 4 micromesh grits wet, then put a match head size drop on a folded paper towel corner and apply with the lath running 1200 or so and polish using a fair amount of pressure. The polish really breaks as the paper towel gets damp-dry and very warm. From my lapidary work I know that most polishes are most effective just at that damp-dry stage. I rarely have to buff after that.

I do the PlastiX by hand with a paper towel after buffing. I apply it with the grain and then wipe with a clean papertowel. You can actually hear it squeaking, it is so smooth.
