Late last night, I applied some water thin PlexAtone to Red Cedar very quickly until it turned white. The process was;
Shop temp, mid 50sF
Fresh turned Red Cedar sanded to 600 and wiped with bath towel to remove dust
One quick coat of thin CA allowed to dry, not cure.
PlexAtone applied coat after coat as soon as dry enough to recoat.
Aprox 15 coats before the last coat turned white. At that point the blank was very cold. It is possible that it had reached a temp below dew point causing moisture to enter the process from condensation. I did not have an IR thermometer to verify the temp, just from touch. The blank was much cooler than the surrounding equipment. The Acetone in the mix evaporated very rapidly pulling the heat from the blank dropping the temp rapidly. I will retry making application with time between coats to allow the temp to stabilize closer to room temp. More to follow.
