pine cones

The winds have blown down this years pine cones, they are about 4" long x 1 1/2 dia. They have not opened yet and feel tight. Can I use something like this to make a pen? Thanks in advance.

I don't see why not. What I would do with something like trhat is cut them down to the size you need on a bandsaw...drill out your hole for the tube then saturate that baby with thin CA. If you don't do that then I would put them in a mold and pour in some kind of resin and put it under pressure until it sets up.

They would be great. You need to ask the Mrs. if you can use the microwave to dry them out.
