Was thinking about an earlier posting and it dawned on me this question.

Being I do not have an album set up here, any photos I have shown over the years I used photobucket. I just embed them within the posting If I remove the photo from that source it goes away from here as well. Is this correct??????????

If so then what happens if I make an album here and again remove a photo from Photobucket, does that photo remain here because it is now stored here???

I ask this question because no other site I would like to leave behind some of my pen work photos when I disappear. Maybe someone in the future would remember my name( probably not) and comment on something I have done and reference it. I Never was a person who thought in the future, always the here and now type person. Look what I have done now. But sometimes I look back at some older threads and wish there was a photo of what the person was talking about but instead there is nothing or a big red X.

Correct John, if you were to delete your photobucket hosted images you would get a red X on IAP, which means the link is broken.

If you uploaded those pictures onto your IAP album, and then deleted them on photobucket, you would still get a red X , as the link in the original post still points to photo bucket.you would need to be able to edit your posts so that you could update the link to point to your photo album on here.

On a plus side though, if you post all future pens you make to your album here and when you post in show off your pens, you link to your IAP album, they will be protected for years to come.

John, if I'm not mistaken, then I think there has been someone here that has been asking about the merits of hosting pics off site, just recently.

I believe he is now fed up asking and therefore just ignores those posts.

I guess one of the merits of making an album here has been noted. I want to be remembered weather it if it is for good or bad at least I want it be known I was here:biggrin: I do not know how long this site will be in activation nor does anyone else probably but will come a time when pen making will be passe to use someone elses word. But in the mean time I would like to have some sort of record of pens I made filed somewhere and I can think of no better place than here. Come future years if pen making is still in vogue people can look back and see some of my creations and say a few words, good or bad about my work. I won't load my album with the many other projects I do make.

I probably started thinking about this when Ed brought up a past name about segmenting and I got into thinking how many pen turners have come through here and some left behind some rememberance and some none. Being this site is definetly having a" Changing of The Guard" I know I will become a fixture of the past soon.
If I do not do some new segmenting and trying to expand my talents I get bored very fast . So I need to record some of my work.

So if your into something like what I am after then I guess it is a good idea to creat an album here. I still will have a photobucket because I still post my pens on other sites too.

Not sure what you are looking for but some people answered your question in that thread. If you want Jeff or a manager to answer just ask them.

:rolleyes:John, have you thought about getting your own site? It really is cheap these days. I have one that is really just a glorified gallery, but maybe one day I'll decide to sell pens and I can just upload the 'buy' pages that are already prepared. I haven't updated my site for at least six months, probably longer.

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean about 'Changing of the Guard'

I do understand about getting bored though... I often get stur crazy and get in a stupid rut that is difficult to get out of.
In a way, I'm glad I'm so busy at work.

Edit; I just saw your last sentence.
I've made my case and asked the questions about off site hosting. It really makes no difference to me either way.
I was simply trying to make a point. In one breath there are cries of 'why is no-one commenting on my pen / contest / etc' and when I say something like 'It's because it takes too damned long to get to your pics' or 'It's because corporate machines are blocked' it just falls on deaf ears. Nobody yet has come up with a good answer.
I'm one of the 'vocal' guys here, there are obviously many many silent ones that feel the same as me:biggrin:

LOL, either that or I'm making a complete prat of myself again!!

Steve

Yes I have thought about my own site and in fact about 1 year or so ago I was working with Curtis to set it up. We never did get things finished and I know how busy he is so I never pusued any more. But maybe someday.

As far as Changing of the Guard goes just look at the posters and look at the post counts they have. You will be hard pressed to find ones over 500 any more. You have been around long enough to notice all the names that have droped off the screen. There is a newer bunch of pen turners here and not much new things happening. They are just getting their feet wet on pen turning. I am not knocking this because every time I say these things they get taken out of context. Every site or forum goes through these things and hopefully new and better ideas emerge. We shall see.

As far as the last thing I can not help you there. I voiced my opinion and I too am vocal which at times has gotten me in trouble.

But nontheless I will continue to do what I do and hopefully at times find enough times to get some turning done and show off a pen or two. As you do also.
