You're probably going to have to leave the camera on a tripod and pen in a stationary spot and move the light. Obviously this will take some experimenting to find what light positions bring out the different colors and such.
 
Not shooting from different angles, but shining different lights at it at the same time from different angles. Ideally bouncing the light off of (paper, diffusers, etc) vs. directly on the pen.
 
Ed, Dave's idea of moving the accent light might be your best bet and is probably easiest to try, but HDR - high dynamic range might be the ticket as you merge different exposures into one image. The different exposures may accent different colors in the blank. Photomatix Essentials does well with the merging. If you are interested, there are many posts on HDR on IAP.
