Sitting here at my desk my work cell rang and a voice on the other end said "This Chase Credit Card Services notifying you your Chase Visa Debit card has been suspended please press 1 to be transferred to our security department" of course I just hung up and then recorded the number and called Cahse. I called them to let them know of a new phishing style I have never seen (I don;t have a debit card with them anyways) and wanted to get the word out so know one gets screwed. Anyways wanted to pass this on to you all as a warning.

I probably would have handled that differently. I would have pressed 1, and when a person came on the line, I would have politely asked for the name of the company making the call, and a call-back number. Then, I would have hung up the phone, gone on-line to the FCC 'do-not-cal' web site, and reported the incident as a violation of the do not call law.

It is a violation of the law for two reasons.
1. You don't have a Chase card, therefore you don't have an existing business relationship.
2. The call came in on a cell-phone.

Finally, I would have contacted Chase and reported the call as a phishing attempt.

I traced the number before I called and it was for a library in Florida so I knew it was spoofed and did not want to take a chance, one of these days I hope to get my hands on one of them and teach him some wall to wall counseling manuevers.

I had a Credit Card Company call to offer their Credit Card service to me. I told them I would love to have a Credit Card from them. I then told them that I just lost my job, about to go bankrupt and need extra cash ASAP. What I don't understand is why the Credit Card Company hung up on me so quick.

Must not be old enough

I get those same emails but this is a first for me by phone.

Maybe you are to young to remember but in the old days, prior to everybody being on line, scam telephone calls were not at all uncommon. Usually telling you you'd won some kind of prize (I remember once is was an ounce of gold) that you could collect as soon as you sent them a "processing fee".

I have been thinking about changing my cell phone number (had it for over 10 years) just because I get so many calls like that. It's amazing what people will do to make a dishonest buck.
