A family owns a heat/ac company, and has a contract with Nansemond Suffolk Academy. Several years ago they took the pine bleachers out of their gym, and he gave them to my grandfather. Well Homer (a nickname I gave my grandfather and everyone knew him as that) had me tear the bleachers apart. We have made a lot of different things with that wood, and still have a good stock pile of it.

A few days ago my best friend from growing up and I were having a beer at his mothers house, which is next door to my grandmother, and he found out I make pens. I guess me being married with kids and him being single does not allow us to go out bar hopping any more . Well his mother and him want some pens, so I made one from the bleachers.

I did not dig out my photo box and all that, just took a picture from my desk.

Butt it's still a nice looking pen, and as I remember it underneath the bleachers wasn't so bad either, I got my first real kiss at a basketball game in the 5th grade, Then we went out and hunted down a Wooly Mammoth.
Nice pen, it looks like some heart pine, or fir, sure must have been better than turning the 2x4's for the last pith.

That must've been one mean woman:biggrin:

Great Memories

That pen probably brings back some great memories.

I had to tear down a couple of 90+ year old barns at my farm in NY. Wish now I would have saved a few boards. There was some nice chestnut.

Hmmmm.... I've got an extreme abundance of bleacher boards from the University basketball court out here that was built at least 50 years ago. I've been using it to build most everything I can. I may have to try turning a piece and see if I get anything interesting out of it now.
