Well I am sad to say my wife lost her job of 11 years today. As a direct result I will more than likely be slowing down my pen turning. Without the two incomes we are used to it will be tough to be able to buy things. We are doing a show at the High School on the 18th of this month, but after that it will be making pens only as we get orders. She is currently hard at work applying at places and not giving it any second thought. On the up side she gets paid until the end of the year still. As some of you know I am sure, there are many emotions and thoughts running through my head currently. We have agreed to try to not go straight into panic mode. Lucky for us we got almost everything bought already for Christmas. Just had like 2-3 things left to go. I know I am not on this specific forum much, but just wanted to let everyone know what's going on in our world. So 1st year without her mom here for the holidays and now no job. I love Christmas too.....hopefully something happens quickly for us.

Thanks for any thoughts/prayers our way.

Todd, I will keep you and your wife in my prayers, and I hope she finds a satisfactory job really fast! Was there any warning?

what low life company fires employees so bloody close to Christmas? Please tell me it is a company we all can boycott?

Todd, I am sorry to hear about your wife's situation, I feel badly for all of the people that have worked for years at places they thought they had secure jobs with, I pray all of this turns around soon and things get back to an even field.

My families prayers are with you and especially for your wife this Christmas. The first without your mom is sooooo hard. God Bless. Brent, Angela, Noah, and Jeremiah

Thanks everyone! There was no warning other than the other person being let go today right before they called her into the office to be next. LOL! I wish it was a company we could boycott, however I think they aren't doing too hot on their own already. I was going to turn tonight when I got home, but I was afraid to have something go wrong and then I would have lost it.

I am sure like most things this will work out for us. We should be alright for the rest of this month.

Todd, I'm really sorry about your wife's situation and I pray a quick and prosperous change is in the makings. I don't have alot of stuff, but if you need anything to help with your turning, just let me know and I will send it to you.

Larry

You and your family will be in our prayers. I have lots of non-fancy domestic blanks laying around - if you could usea few just let me know (pm me). More than happy to help.

God bless.

Todd, I probably have no business butting in, but my daughter is in the same situation. She came up with a pretty good idea (for her). She started doing pen parties, similar to Tupperware, Pampered Chef. I told her that I would make the pens for her.
Well, she needs to slow down at this point. I can't keep up, plus, I am trying to figure out how to tell her that she now needs to, at least pay for the kits.

Will you tell your wife that I am VERY PROUD of her. I know a lot of people would be doing other non productive things on the first day of being let go after 10 years. I give a lot of credit to a fighter that gets up swinging after getting socked like that. I have faith that she will be working soon.
I am not going to give any advice because I know by your one statement that she will use her time wisely until she finds a new job.
Hang in there buddy!!

Now thats a good idea! Maybe Todd, Stacie and I could do something similar.

Todd,

I know it must be hard on you and your wife and especially right here at Christmas.
Just remember, God is in control, he as a reason for this. I will be praying for you and your wife

At the end of the day it's a door being forced open so you guys can face new opportunities together. I've been through that a couple of times now, and it's no fun, as I'm sole provider right now. I had to drop names just to get a janitorial job at one point. Hang on to your a$$, let life happen the way it needs to, and it'll all work itself out. My prayers are with you.

Todd, My best wishes go out to you and your wife. I hope she finds a better job than what she had before.

My wife retired in June. It was tight, adjusting to the new income level, but we did it and she is enjoying life more so now than ever before. Good Luck..

I'll have you and your family in my prayers Todd, hang in there bud God will provide..
It seems like Ohio its in a deeper recession than the rest of the states I'm I right about that?It seems like I heard something to that fact on the news.

Sorry to hear that. Hope your wife finds a job soon.

Don't be too hard on that company she worked for. There's a lot of businesses across this country that are barely hanging on, and they're doing everything they can just to survive. Unfortunately that includes laying off personel they don't absolutely have to have.

Something will turn up eventually.... and it might just be a whole lot better.

That's amazing, My brother-in-law just got fired today too after 11 years with a company in Groveport. Their reason was "economic priorities" I don't buy it. You don't just wake up one day and decide so and so has to go TODAY! no warning. Companies know when times are bad as do the employees. I have my theory and it has to do with him being the only male on the management team. If their economic priorities were that dire why did he get a 17 week severance package?

Anyway I hope your wife has great success with her job search.

I am not defending anyone here, so no flames, please.
I have been on the other side and have friends there now. In a small company, the emploies are more like friends and family. It is very hard to make that decission and when it is made, it is very hard to finally do it. i do not like it nor do I ever wish to have to do it again. But from time to time it does become a necessity to reduce the payroll. Then the hard choice, which one will it be?
I learned several years back that the time of the permanent job and company loyality was past.

I appreciate all the feedback and support from everyone. I of course understand the company side of things, although it doesn't take the sting away. Most people first feel anger, then guilt, then depression. Trust me we both felt some anger at first. Today is more determination. Like I said the most important thing for us will not be to go into panic mode here. She is getting paid until the 31st at least. I have a decent amount of turning stock at this time. Hoping the show on the 18th will smile on us and be better than our craft bazaar.
