My son lives in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and is looking to change the nib on a pen I made for him several years ago. Does anyone know of another turner in the Amsterdam area that he might contact for some help? It's a bit of a stretch for me, plus a long flight. Thanks in advance for any help.

I did a quick look on the IAP Members Map and found a couple, but I don't think the map has been updated for a while. The most recent activity is from zwaluwstaart (Jun 15, 2023) from Eindhoven and from Woodmanedje from Holland (Jun 12, 2023). It might be worth sending them a PM. Maybe they could help or maybe they know of others in the area that just do not show up on the IAP Member Map.

I did a pen exchange with wimkluck in the Netherlands. Everything went very well!!

There are 2 pen turning supply companies in the Netherlands, Houtdraaiwerken Oen Kits in Olst & Wood Blanks & Pen Kits in Limburg. Both are about 2 hours from Amsterdam, but it might be worth checking in with them - perhaps they know of some pen turners in Amsterdam

Dumb question but going to ask anyway, why not have him send it back to you so you can do the work and also check quality and do any other repairs. he is your son. Think of it as part of the warranty.

Not a dumb question at all John. We talked about that but after the shipping costs it would far out cost the cost of a new nib from someone in the EU. Christmas gifts this year cost over $80.00 and it was a small box. Plus all the customs forms you need to fill out seem to take days. So to your point, he'll find the nib he wants and I'll reimburse him for the cost. Thanks for your input.

Removing the nib on every fountain pen kit I have made has been quite straight forward. Look in the library for information. Lots of information online. It is not difficult.

What kit did you use for the pen? If not a kit, then what nib feed unit did you use? Bock? JoWo?

Do a good turn daily!
Don

Let him go to Appelboom in Laren Noord Holland. They have a NIBmeister. They sell a lot of brands and i think they have also a shop in the USA (Boston).
The city laren is about 25 km from Amsterdam.

It's the David Broadwell fountain pen from PSI. Unfortunately Don, the pen is in Amsterdam so I can't change it. I wish I could but I'm not taking another flight to Amsterdam anytime soon. It's interesting flying back to the States from Amsterdam. Zero problems until we got to the International TSA in Salt Lake where they check your bags. It's the only time my wife has ever told me to shut up before I got arrested. Have a great weekend and great 4th- Tom

You didn't mention why the change. Is it damaged, or does he want a different point size?
Is your son comfortable changing the nib himself. There is a decent chance that that kit will take a #5 Jowo.
